Betis Group is looking for mainframe programmers and operators for OpenVMS systems on VAX, ALPHA and ITANIUM architecture. This requirement is for a New York state government agency with offices in NYC. Work will most likely be on-site, but some remote may be possible.

Job Description: OpenVMS Support Analyst/Developer

  • Support required for VAX, ALPHA and ITANIUM architecture in the NY City metropolitan area with extensive knowledge of OpenVMS OS for User Mode, Utilities, Run Time Libraries, Privileged Images (User Mode), Command Language Interpreter (Supervisor mode), Executive Mode System Services, and Record management Services (Executive Mode). The individual(s) will be responsible to provide daily end-user support, on-demand reporting, process/function development (business functions), report/data-feed automations and system administration/management. Duties involve responding to clients promptly and professionally, accurately documenting issues and resolutions, and collaborating with clients and internal employees to solve complex technical problems.

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred

Work Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • At least 5 years of experience designing and developing on OpenVMS system including VAX, ALPHA, ITANIUM
  • Expertise in developing applications on OpenVMS (e.g. screens, queries and reports)
  • In-depth knowledge designing data structures and queries with OpenVMS
  • Ability to understand and identify business needs and translate those to a technical solution
  • Understanding of the software development life cycle (SDLC) and best practices around requirements gathering, development, testing, and launching an application
  • Ability to quickly learn new software and technologies and business processes/rules
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively to resolve client issues
  • Ability to take ownership of and follow through on client issues until resolution is achieved
  • Excellent communication skills both written and oral, interpersonal, organizational skills, and problem solving ability to work with non-technical end users on complex issues
  • Communicate professionally and effectively with customers at all levels. Explain technical details in a plain, clear and simple manner
